Today’s episode is a relaxamation and it focusses on moderation and finding balance. If you don’t know what a relaxamation is then you may want to read my blog or listen to the episode called Relaxamations Explained – The Big Calm & The Feel-Good Factor.
Please do not listen to the relaxation segment of this episode while driving or operating machinery.

The Christmas season can bring joy, warmth, family, celebration… and sometimes worry. For people living with a heart condition — whether that’s heart disease, heart failure, recovery from a heart attack, cardiac arrest, or heart surgery — the idea of “moderation” can feel confusing, overwhelming, or even frightening.
You might wonder:
“How much is too much?”
“What if I overdo it?”
“What if one decision causes another setback?”
These are incredibly common fears. When your trust in your body has been shaken, it makes sense that the unknown feels risky. But moderation isn’t about restriction, punishment, or living in fear. It’s about finding the space between excess and deprivation — the space where you can live fully and look after your heart.
Why Moderation Matters When Living with Heart Disease
Moderation supports your recovery not by limiting your joy, but by keeping your nervous system calm, your energy steady, and your heart protected. It helps you:
- Maintain balanced blood pressure and stress levels
- Prevent overwhelm and overexertion
- Tune into your body’s early signals
- Honour your energy while still engaging in life
When you approach food, alcohol, movement, rest, and socialising with mindful moderation, you support both your physical and emotional wellbeing. It’s one of the most powerful tools you have in your healing journey.
And Yet… Life Is Meant to Be Lived
Your healing journey isn’t meant to be a life of going without. You don’t have to spend Christmas policing every choice, watching what everyone else is eating, or fearing that one indulgence will set you back.
Healing is about reclaiming trust – trust in your body, trust in your intuition, and trust in your ability to make choices that support you without depriving you.
This relaxamation is designed to help you practise that trust. You’ll connect with your inner wisdom, tune into your body’s signals, and discover what moderation truly feels like for you – not what diet rules, old habits, or fear-based thinking tell you it “should” be.
Using gentle relaxation, body awareness, and the repeated affirmation, you will learn to:
- Release worry about “too much” or “too little”
- Enjoy treats, activities, and celebrations mindfully
- Trust your body to guide your choices
- Practice moderation as part of your healing journey
This season, you can savour moments, enjoy festive foods and drinks, and participate in life – all while staying grounded and connected to your heart’s wisdom.
Today’s Affirmation:
Say your affirmation 5 times each as a set. Repeat your set of affirmations at least twice a day.
The more you use them, the bigger the impact. Add them to a habit that you do every day. While cleaning your teeth, driving, running, walking your dog, washing the dishes, when you first wake up or the last thing at night.
- I trust myself to find balance and moderation
Your Self-Reflection Journalling Prompts are:
Use these reflection questions to delve a little deeper and get to know yourself better. You can use them as prompts for journaling, during meditation or just give yourself a few moments of time to sit and consider your answers.
1. When I listen to my body rather than my fears, what does moderation feel like for me?
2. What would a balanced, enjoyable festive season look like – one where I care for my heart and still feel included, joyful, and free?
3. What early signals does my body give me when I’m approaching ‘enough,’ and how can I honour those lovingly?
