How do you get your mojo back after a cardiac event?

After a major illness such as a heart attack or cancer, it’s not just the physical body that is affected, it’s how you feel too that counts. Your self-esteem and confidence take a knock too. When you experience a life changing event such as a heart attack, heart surgery,  divorce, redundancy, children leaving home or financial issues you go through change and challenges that can also knock you for six.

Finding ways to overcome this early, learning resilience, and setting goals are an important part of rehabilitation. You can find ways for getting more confident and raise your self-esteem. There are many therapies such as Hypnotherapy, NLP and Life Coaching that can help you with this.

What is self-esteem?

Self-esteem is not innate; it develops from early conditioning and centres on a belief system. We develop what is known as your “Map of the World”. This will be made up of all your beliefs about how the world works plus all the personalised filters you set up to make sure you only collect evidence that supports your Map. Some of the beliefs will empower you while others will be limiting.

A definition is that self esteem is how you feel about and what you believe about yourself.

Having low self-esteem is described as feelings of low self worth, lack of self belief and a lack of confidence. So is it any wonder that after a cardiac event you may have lost confidence in yourself, your abilities and your body.

Before your cardiac event, in general you may have felt good about yourself however afterward once life settles down, you may be feeling vulnerable after all the things that have been happening to you. When things go wrong self-esteem can drop down. The long-term effect depends on your ability to bounce back and the speed that it takes for your self-esteem to return to its normal level, this is called resilience.

Building resilience

The healthier your self esteem the more resilient you will be. It is appropriate to be affected by crisis, trauma and disaster. Lack of reaction would be a sign of mental imbalance. A healthy eating plan, good activity and sleep all contribute to building resilience and confidence.

A definition is that self esteem is how you feel about and what you believe about yourself.

Through Life Coaching, NLP and Hypnotherapy you can build confidence, set goals and remove limiting beliefs. This will then help you to live and love your life once more, perhaps even more than you did before your cardiac event.
