I needed to find acceptance for the rules for being human
It was in 2016 that I realised that this would be the first step of my recovery from a heart attack and breast cancer. I realised that I needed to accept and understand the differences in my life. To learn my new rules for being human and my new existence as a warrior of life. I found the following rules for being human to inspirational and help me to accept and come to terms with how I was feeling and thinking.
The following words are not mine although I have edited them to suit my purpose in this post. I have come across these rules in various numbers 9, 10 or 12 and from different sources. The first time I saw them they were quoted as being Rules that had been passed down from ancient Sanskrit.
On further research, credit should go to Dr Chérie Carter-Scott. She wrote “The Ten Rules for Being Human” as a handout for a workshop in the 1970s. Sometime later in 1993, they were published in “Chicken Soup for the Soul” by Jack Cranfield. She then wrote the book “If Life is a Game, these are the Rules”, published in 1998.
I found also found that Dan Millman was quoted as publishing them in 1992, in his book “Way of the Peaceful Warrior”.
And that it was Oprah Winfrey helped to make them famous.
Regardless of the source and number of rules, I have combined them below. For me, they are definitely worth reading and taking on board. 100% I know that I do forget them and also that I remember them again.
Enjoy ……… and learn the rules for being human.
1. You will receive a body
You may love it or hate it, but it will be yours for the duration of your life on Earth. Make peace with it or fight a lifelong war, the choice is yours and yours alone.
2. You will learn lessons
Every day is a school day; you will never live a day without learning about someone, something or yourself. Pay attention. You’re enrolled in a full-time informal school called ‘life on earth.’
Each day you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or hate them, but you have designed them as part of your curriculum. Every person or incident is the Universal Teacher.
3. There are no mistakes, only lessons
No wrong move is wasted or should be thought of with regret. Growth is a process of experimentation. It’s a series of trials, errors, and victories.
The failed experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that work. It all made you the person you are now and that is a road worth walking.
4. A lesson is repeated until learned
If you feel that you are banging your head against a brick wall, you are. Lessons will be repeated to you in various forms until you have learned them.
Stop, listen to life showing you the patterns you are repeating and break the chain. Let it go. You can then go on to the next lesson.
5. Learning lessons does not end
You are never ‘done’. There is no part of life that does not contain lessons. There is always something new to realise or a part of your soul to free. Cherish that, it’s your purpose. If you are alive, there are and always will be lessons to be learned.
6. “There” is no better than “here”
When your ‘there’ has become a ‘here,’ you will simply get a ‘there’ that will look better to you than your present ‘here’. You will always want more if more is what you seek. Look around you, make peace with your present and your future will unfold as it should.
7. Others are mirrors of you
You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something that you love or hate about yourself.
8. What you make of your life is up to you
Where or how you are born is unimportant. You have everything you need to create anything you desire. You have all the tools and resources you need. It’s only you that holds you back. What you do with them is up to you and only you. You create your own reality. Imagine your future self, looking back over your lifetime, what do you want to see?
9. Life is exactly what you think it is
Start believing in yourself and projecting the things you want. Stop worrying about things that may or may not happen. Once you do this you will see that your life is exactly what you make it.
Your unconscious mind will decide what energies, experiences, and people you will attract into your life. The only way to know what you want; is to see what you have. Refrain from feeling like a victim, decide that you are a student.
10. Your answers lie inside you
The answers to life’s questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust. Dig deep, it’s in there. It was always in there.
Your answers really do lie inside you
11. You will forget all this
12. You can remember it whenever you want
